Application procedure for a Parking Place (Garage) Certificate etc for automobiles



For those who apply for a Parking Place Certificate (for regular vehicles)

The following are necessary documents and a set of instructions for filling out an application form for a Parking Place Certificate.

Conditions for a parking place

  • The distance between your base location for use (individual owner: home address/ corporate body: company address) and your parking place needs to be 2 kilometers or less.
  • You can enter or exit your parking place without any obstacles and your entire vehicle must fit inside the parking place.
  • You need to have the right to use the land or building as your parking place.

Circumstances in which a Parking Place Certificate is required

  • New registration (registering a new automobile)
  • Registration of change (when you have changed your base location for use)
  • Registration of transfer (necessary only when you have changed both the ownership of an automobile and its base location for use)

Required documents

1  Application form for a Parking Place Certificate (2 pages)

2  Application form for a Parking Place Sticker (2 pages)

Please fill out the above application form and submit it to the traffic division of the police station which has jurisdiction over the storage place. (PDF File1 parking certificate (parking certificate))

  • You can get the above application forms at a police station.
  • An application form for a Parking Place Certificate and that for a Parking Place Sticker provided at a police station are a four-page carbon copy document.
  • Please use a ballpoint pen when you fill out the four-page carbon copy document.
* Model, vehicle type, chassis number, and size of a vehicle
  • Accurately write in the model, vehicle type, chassis number, and size of your vehicle, referring to your vehicle inspection certificate.
  • In the case of a new registration, a chassis number can be left blank at the time of application but is required to be written in when a Parking Place Certificate is issued.
* Base location for use
  • In the case of an individual, it is his or her residence, and in the case of a juridical person, it is the location of his or her office.
* Location of a parking place
  • Write in the address of your parking place.
* Applicant's address and name
  • If the applicant is a juridical person, enter the name of the applicant, his/her title and the name of its representative.
  • Write Furigana(how to pronounce a name)in Kata-kana characters above the applicant’s name.
* Contact number
  • Write in your telephone number or a telephone number of a person who can answer inquiries regarding your application.

3  Location map and layout of a parking place

Note: Please be aware that if you make a photocopy of a commercially available map and attach it to your application form without permission of its copyright holder, you may be subject to violation of the copyright law.

4  Proof of your right to use a parking place

1) If you own a land/building used as a parking place:
  • Self-acknowledgement
2) If someone else owns a land/building used as a parking place:
  • Owner’s permission for your use of a parking place
  • A copy of a parking place lease contract
  • If you have SOFA status and live off a military base, please bring a copy of the contract you received from the residential section.
  • In case you can't provide any documents mentioned above, you may provide a written confirmation issued by a public agency stating that you have the right to use its land/building as your parking place.
3) Submit either one of the documents mentioned in (2) with a Parking Place Certificate Application Form.

Note: We do not provide documents regarding lease contracts at police stations or our website.

Where to submit your application:

At the police station whose jurisdiction covers your parking place.

Fee

For a Parking Place Certificate: 2,100 yen ( Please pay by Kanagawa Prefectural revenue stamps (Shu-nyu Shoshi).)

For a Parking Place Sticker: 500 yen (Please pay by Kanagawa Prefectural revenue stamps (Shu-nyu Shoshi).)

*  Kanagawa Prefectural revenue stamps are available at the Traffic Safety Committee.

Procedure

Submit application documents at a police station.

Receive the acceptance card (Uke-tuke-hyo) from the police station.
(The acceptance card(Uke-tuke-hyo) shows the date on which your certificate will be issued.)

(A police officer or a parking place inspector will come to your parking place for inspection, usually 1 or 2 days after application.)

*  If your application contains false or incorrect information or if you declare an inadequate place as your parking place, a Parking Place Certificate will not be issued.

*  If we cannot confirm the chassis number of your vehicle, a Parking Place Certificate will not be issued.

Bring your receive the acceptance card(Uke-tuke-hyo) with you to the police station where you have submitted your application documents and receive your Parking Place Certificate and Parking Place Sticker.

*  Please come to the police station where you’ve submitted application documents and receive your certificate as soon as possible after the scheduled issue date shown on the acceptance card(Uke-tuke-hyo).

*  A Parking Place Certificate is valid only for 1 month from the proof date.

    Notification procedure for light automobiles (for Kei cars)

    Circumstances in which a notification of a light automobile (Kei car) is required

    *  If you live in an area called applied area (適用地域 Tekiyoh Chi-iki), where you need to submit a notification of a light automobile (Kei car) to the police, you need to notify your light automobile to the police.

    Applied areas: Yokohama city, Kawasaki city, Yokosuka city, Fujisawa city, Sagamihara city(Except for the jurisdiction of Tsukui Police Station), Chigasaki city,Hiratsuka city, Odawara city, Atsugi city, Yamato city, Kamakura city, Hadano city, Ebina city,and Zama city,

    • Purchasing a new light automobile (Kei car)
    • Purchasing/obtaining a used light automobile (Kei car) and changing its parking place
    • Changing your parking place after submitting a notification of a light automobile (Kei car)

    Required documents

    2  Application form for a Parking Place Sticker (2 pages)

    Parking Place Sticker Reissue (for regular vehicles and light automobiles (Kei cars))

    If your Parking Place Sticker is damaged or lost, you can get it reissued.

    Required documents

    Application form for reissue of a Parking Place Sticker (2 pages)

    Please fill out the above application form and submit it to the traffic division of the police station which has jurisdiction over the storage place. (PDF File 3 reissue of mark(標章再交付))

    If the storage place mark becomes unusable due to loss, etc., fill in the necessary items on the application form for reissuance of the storage place mark and submit it to the police station having jurisdiction over the storage place (garage). (fee: 500 yen).

    Parking Place Certificate Reissue (for regular vehicles)

    If your Parking Place Certificate is damaged or lost, you can get it reissued before it expires (only within 1 month from the proof date) (fee: 400 yen).

    Procedures for Notification of Changes in the Place of Storage of Ordinary Cars (garage)

    • In the case where the location of the storage location has been changed without changing the location of the principal place of use.
