Taking fingerprints

Those who request that the Japanese police take their fingerprints need to accept the following conditions:

NOTE: We take fingerprints of ordinary citizens ONLY when their purpose is to request a police clearance certificate from other countries. In other cases, we DO NOT take fingerprints of ordinary citizens upon their request, as we are only obliged to take fingerprints of criminals.

1 Please prepare a form yourself.

Depending on the country/organization you are submitting your fingerprints to, you may be provided with a specific form to put your fingerprint. Please contact the country/organization and confirm what form you need for the country/organization. The Japanese police will not provide you with a form.

2 The Japanese police do not provide signatures.

The Japanese police will not provide signatures, stamps, seals, etc. of any form for the form. This is because the Japanese police are not obliged to take fingerprints of ordinary citizens. Please contact the country/organization on the matter and follow their instructions. The role of the police is only to provide technical assistance (such as special ink and technical skills) to take your fingerprints.
