As a surge in overseas visitors to this prefecture is expected in the lead-up to the Rugby World Cup 2019 and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic & Paralympic Games, Kanagawa Prefectural Police are required to have better, smooth communication with foreign people at police boxes.

In accordance with a guideline issued by the National Police Agency as to the operation of “Model Police Box with Foreign Language Proficiency”, we have designated Kamakura Ekimae Kōban (police box in front of Kamakura train station) as the model police box. This model police box belongs to the Kamakura Police Station which jurisdiction covers the representative tourist site of Japan; Kamakura, and has started its service since the 27th of October 2016.
