(Tests for exchanging your foreign driver's license)

You can take this procedure only at the driver's license office(FUTAMATAGAWA)

Requirement

Your license must be valid. You have to pass all the tests before your license expires.
You have to prove that you stayed in the issuance country when you got your license and prove staying in country of the driver's license issuance for more than 90 days after license issue.

  • *  It will take about 4 hours,please come to apply when you have the time.
  • *  We do not have translators in house, so please furnish one yourself.
  • *  In case there are more applicants than the capacity we may limit the number of applicants.
It will be overcrowded right before the closing time. Please come earlier to take enough time.

  • Foreign driver's license, including old ones. (if in your possession)
    * If your license has been issued, renewed or duplicated recently without mentioning the original issue date, you must prove it with a record or certificate from your license authority.
    * If you have a license for more than 2 categories(ex.Car and Motorcycle),you will need to bring a driver's license record with the issue date of each categories.
  • Passports (including current and old ones with the record of departure from and entry to the issuance country. Please take a note of the term of your stay (dates of departures and entries) in the issuance country)
    * If you don't have old passports or if you have used Automated Gates, You will need to bring The Record of Entry and Departure from your license country or the countries you register the Automated gates.
  • Visas of the issuance country
  • Official certified Japanese translation of your license issued by following agencies alone:
    embassy or consulate in Japan; or JAF (Japan Automobile Federation) TEL 045 (482) 1255
  • Non-Japanese must show Alien Registration Card with valid visa.
    Japanese must provide their certificate of residence (JUMINHYO), issued within the last 6 months and HONSEKI must appear on it.
    * "JUMINHYO" must be issued by city (ward, town) hall. Photocopy is not acceptable.
  • 1 photograph, taken within the last 6 months, hatless, no background, taken one third of upper body, 3 x 2.4 cm
  • Fee
  • Japanese driver's license. Please include any previous (expired) Japanese licenses.
  • International Driving Permits, if you have.
  • Corrective lenses
